Sunset Ridge is a great community with amenities and events to spare. The community is extremely pet friendly, the staff are very responsive, and work orders are managed in a timely manner. I’ve also never felt safer in an apartment complex than I have here. Highly recommend, especially if you work on/near the Fort Sam-Houston area. -

Sunset ridge is the best ! Kathryn helped me move in and she went above and beyond to help me move in fast! My apartment was clean and ready! I even got to speak with the property manager and she was so nice and professional! I definitely recommend living here! They really know what they are doing! -

Have been renting with Sunset Ridge for about 4 months now.Pros: very expansive property with excellent paths to go on walks.Gated dog community with a dog shower. Very dog friendly.Decent size gym as far as apartments go.Apartments have a nice old charm to them and are decent sizes!Large community poolOur one maintenance request was handled fastMilitary discount offeredCovered car portsCons: Closets in some rooms have terrible dimensions.Sometimes communication with the front desk staff is not the best. While they have made some renovations you can tell they were hastily done (paint splattered all over)Overall for the price we are paying for a two bedroom apartment, we feel we are getting a great deal. -

I moved into Sunset Ridge in late April. The entire staff has made everything smooth and accommodating in every way. Samantha, the manager, even went as far as to help me jump my car when the battery died recently. The Apartments are great and overall I’m extremely happy with my decision to move here! -

I love my apartment. I moved to San Antonio in September and wanted to wait for a while so I could leave a well-informed review. The maintenance crew is SO KIND. When I first moved in, Blue helped me move heavy equipment up 2 flights of stairs. The neighborhood is beautiful and safe. I walk around at night all the time and have never had an issue. They are good about pest control. I had never lived in a climate where cockroaches abound and I was really scared about it! I live on the second floor and Ive seen 2 (in my apartment) in 6 months. The gym is awesome, the pool is beautiful and Im going to use the public grill this weekend for the first time! Thanks Sunset Ridge! -

I have to start by saying Sunset Ridge is amazing! The girls in the office are very helpful, informed, and always cheerful and very inviting. Sammie the resident manager always goes out of her way to listen to my concerns and help in any way possible. The clubhouse is always welcoming and a good place to relax and enjoy a cup of Joe on the house. All the cool renovations and add ons they’re doing around the property are starting to come to fruition. All the pros heavily outweigh the cons here! It’s hard to find an awesome office staff coupled along with an awesome maintenance! -

Great Apartment Complex, with friendly neighbors. We’re a military family and loved how close it is to Fort Sam Base (6 min to main gate). We have a dog and a child and it’s a wonderful neighborhood to walk your dog and take your kid for a walk. Great for runners and stores and restaurant in walking distance. Very clean place! Great gym and pool. The buildings are old but I personally think it’s worth it because you live in the best part of San Antonio. I loved the new management here and I love our maintenance people who always go above and beyond. Never had any issue with them.People here who complain about roaches: yes, you do get a roach once in a while. But you live in Texas and they do come inside when it rains. We live on a 1st floor apartment and saw 2 roaches in 6 months of living here. -

Ive lived here for 18 months now and have really enjoyed the community like feel. The office staff is responsive and they actual care. Ive read the negative comments below but me personally I have not experienced any of this. The apartment was clean and I do not regret renting here. One thing to always keep in mind is that it is much quicker for people to write a bad review than a good one. Ive found myself doing the same so I started with reviewing a very important place. My Home and Ive had a really positive experience here. -

Since Morningside took over I have seen significant positive changes. From the clean up, ac tune up, and overall look of the property. The office and maintenance staff has helped so much with work orders that the previous management company avoided in my apartment. -

Review 12 (2020-09-17 - Rating: 4)
Lived here for 6 month. Very quiet and nice place. Loved it here. Never experience anything bad within the apartment. Only reason I did not 5⭐ first week my tires got slash. Admin told me it was ok to move in early, but got blindsided by a $64 fee for switching the Utility to my name early, which they did not inform me about. I still had to pay extra for amenities even though I cannot utilize it cause of COVID. -

Sunset Ridge is what I call home. The apartments are comfortable and the staff goes out of their way to get the neighbors together. I have lived here for over 2 years and it just got better since the new management has food trucks for us and events! Will definitely renew here. -
Review 14 (2018-04-02 - Rating: 5)
Moving here could not have been better. From staff to grounds and then apartments are spotless. So much light with large windows getting light in. Wood floors are beautiful. Move to an apartments that reminds me of Boston apartments. Kitchen is FAB. Quiet and respectful neighbors even welcoming our family pets. Lots of walking trails and pet areas. Go ahead explore the walkways. If I was a child I would have so much fun playing hide and seek.I have beautiful trees off of living room and dining area. My close neighbors are very respectful. I expected more noise per reviews on apt above me. My up stairs neighbor is so quiet -

This place was a great place to live and the office was always helpful and nice. The gym is great and the location is great. You can walk to a grocery store, haircut, hardware store and restaurants as well as other little stores within a few blocks. The only problems I experienced was move in day the apartment was not close to being ready (ketchup on fridge, dirt on floor, clothes behind the washer and dryer, toilet paper holder broken, dirt and hair on wall. Locks and seal on door didn’t work). However I called immediately when I saw the place and they came and fixed everything in a few hours. Also there are cockroaches that come and visit you sometimes and I was there 4 months and saw them inside the apartment about 8 times. They are disgusting. Also my sink one day just dropped down below into the compartment below. It was also fixed promptly. The area is quiet mostly. We were on the 1st floor and it was annoying hearing the upstairs apartment walking around. But I think that happens everywhere. Overall I would recommend the apartments. -

This property is looking better and better, I like all the improvements and the office staff is so nice. The maintenance is great and really cares about the property, Ive only seen the supervisor and I think hes alone but is still doing a good job! The housekeeper tries her best to keep the property looking clean. -

Review 19 (2015-05-21 - Rating: 5)
I absolutely LOVE living here. We are a military couple, so we had to find a place quickly, because we really had nowhere else to go. They are accommodating, and very helpful. My husband and I were able to move in when we wanted. When we first moved in, one of the sockets wasnt working, I called and they came within hours to help. No problems since. It is in a central area, close to everything, yet you seem like you are in your own little world - no traffic noise. We love the facilities, and has a great walking or running neighborhood. If we had more time to look, Im sure we would still choose here :) -
Review 20 (2018-05-26 - Rating: 5)
I have only been here coming up on a month, but it’s been awesome. I’ve lived in many apartments over the years (former military). The charm of the apartment is great (original hardwood floors, updated kitchen, Art Deco floor in the bathroom, telephone nook). I live in a one bedroom and it’s very spacious yet cozy at once. The natural lighting is mind blowing. The amenities such as the pool and gym are honestly something you will not find at another complex. It feels like a neighborhood versus a complex. Lastly shout out to Eleni!!!!! She was awesome during my move into sunset ridge. I’m definitley staying for a good while. -
Review 21 (2020-08-22 - Rating: 5)
Just signed my lease and am super excited for move in! Even with the many issues arising while trying to relocate with Covid, our leasing agent Iris went above and beyond to make sure that this experience was as stress free as possible! This property was much more enjoyable to work with than others that my wife and I have reached out to, and having such an outgoing agent made the experience even better. Thank you Sunset Ridge, and thank you Iris!!!! -
Review 22 (2022-06-23 - Rating: 5)
I moved here in 2020 and I can see a huge difference in management since they switched over. Morningside really cares about the property and the improvements are looking great. The office staff really cares about their residents and work orders have been done within a day of calling. I am excited to see how everything turns out once it is all completed! -
Review 23 (2016-02-15 - Rating: 4)
So far so good! When we moved in about a month ago our apartment was ready to go, I didnt feel as though I needed to sanitize everything just to bring my stuff in. The location is great and the grounds and apartments are about as charming as they come. The only negative thing I have, if you cant deal with hearing your upstairs neighbors walking around, the 1940s original hardwood is not going to work for you. If you are realistic to the fact that you will hear walking around you will be fine. I already feel at home here.1.5 YEAR EDIT- I still like it here, the location is great, but the apartments are old and not sealed up as well as some newer places. I put in a pest work order about every 3 months for roaches whether I see one or not because they sneak in. Also, that charming hardwood is so loud! Old lead foot up there likes to rearrange furniture 4 times a day and play fetch with the dogs in the apartment. My advice to avoid all of these things, get a 2nd floor unit and buy some rugs so your downstairs neighbors dont bang on the ceiling to much. -

Any time I go to the office with an issue to be resolved, I am always attended quickly and efficiently by Katherine! I am in and out in no time! Maintenance is great also and works in timely manner. -
Review 25 (2023-08-28 - Rating: 4)
Yesterday it is 95 degrees in my apartment and I have 2 small children 5 and 7. Aircon not working. I called the emergency line given and got call center who said they could not tell me if or when anyone was coming. This was frustrating. In the end within a couple of hours of my call maintenance showed up and fixed. Manager called this morning and said there was a mix up and someone should have called or texted. Thanks Maintenance ! -

Sounds to me like they are trying to de Barrio this place. I’m thrilled they’re instituting rules so it looks less like a post war Sec 8 housing project. The ones complaining on here are, I’m quite certain, the ones that make the rules so important. This is San Antonio (this place is actually not IN Alamo Heights, it’s on the “edge”, so technically San Antonio) people here trash everything, they would put old piñatas and trash on their porch, they never throw away anything and I’ve never in my life seen people who litter like San Antonians, it’s like cultural. So I’m very pleased to read in these reviews that this dump in a great location is FINALLY being brought into this century. If this were any other city, they would have been leveled decades ago, the people who live here should be thankful it still stands and rent is only 1300, if I were a developer I’d buy it and level the entire thing and build an upscale gated community of patio homes -

Review 28 (2017-08-16 - Rating: 4)
I lived at Sunset Ridge in a one-bedroom apartment for almost two years (2015-17). Here is an objective assessment of the property based on my experience:PLUS POINTS:- Central location, close to downtown (15 min) and the airport (15 min).- If you pay attention to what you eat and you like organic food (like I do), you will love the location since quality grocery stores like Whole Foods, Central Market and Trader Joes are only 5-8 min by car.- Quiet and green district, very nice place to have a walk or for jogging. Good place for children as well (playground).- Vintage/Retro spirit of the buildings that have a character, unlike many generic new constructions which are pretty standard. Especially, the original wood flooring from the 1940s is beautiful.- Natural daylight: each apartment unit has lots of windows and natural daylight thanks to the through-layout of the units. I loved it.- Spacious kitchen and living room areas.- Nicely renovated units.- Brand new fitness area, pretty well equipped.- Staff members are pretty reactive to your queries or maintenance requests (typically I had mines fixed within 24h). Sometimes I had to have them come back again to fix an issue but the overall service was ok.- I found the neighbors to be pretty friendly overall (good people).NEGATIVE POINTS:- Thermal insulation and accoustics: this is inherent to a building dating from the late 1940s. Obviously, you will hear your neighbors more than in a new construction. Your electricity bill will also likely be higher, especially during summer months. I had an apartment on the top floor, that way you can likely lower the noise level.- Bathroom and storage: the bathroom is relatively small and there are limited storage areas. I had no walking closet in my apartment. This is because of the original layout of the 1940s buildings.- Insects: there may be more insect intrusions compared to a new construction. My apartment was always clean and I put some insect traps under my furniture so that it never was a big deal. Again top-floor units are probably more moderately affected by this.- Maintenance: the frequency of maintenance requests may also be higher than in a brand new construction. Again, you need to keep that in mind as it is an old building.- Pricing: the rental cost is not on the cheap side but I felt that the quality/price ratio was pretty good considering the location (Alamo Heights) and the unique vintage character of the former military lodging buildings. To me, it was worth its money.CONCLUSION:I was looking for a quiet and green location, where I could see trees from my windows and without having a concrete parking as a view from my living room. Yes, I had more noise and more maintenance issues than in an new building but I was willing to make that compromise given the plus points of that facility. -
