They were the only one of the 5 HVAC service providers that understood my desire for a heat pump, and the only one to properly size the unit (using Manual J) as part of the estimate rather than basing it on square footage of the home. When I declined some additional services, there was no pressure or sales tactics to change my mind.

    I am so grateful to Joey at Better Service Co. I called them this morning, Joey came in and wired my furnace properly, and he checked out my thermostat, which another company told me was malfunctioning and wanted to charge me a lot to replace it. Joey explained what had probably happened and assured me the thermostat is fine and recognizes both stages of my furnace. He also doubled checked my outside unit to confirm my AC was properly wired. Joey is very knowledgeable and friendly, and I feel I’ve found a trustworthy source for my HVAC needs. I highly recommend Joey and Better Service Co.I should also mention Better Service Co. is one of the contractors for Austin Energy’s weatherization assistance program. They did a fantastic job adding insulation, modifying duct work, and making sure my house is as efficient as possible with regard to energy usage.

    James has a very talented crew of truly skilled professionals. My project involved rather complicated and precise trim carpentry to complete an HVAC upgrade in a very tight space. They installed drywall-covered access doors that are almost invisible. Cleanest work Ive ever seen. I highly recommend them and will definitely use them again.

    We originally hired another local company to clean our dryer vent. We thought the job was done with the exception that they could not provide a cover. A second company that I have used in the past referred us to Better Service Co to install a magnetic flap to keep the birds from going back in the vent and nesting. This also came with a warranty that if for some reason a creature returned, they would come back out and clean it at no charge.When I contacted Better Service Co., I explained that we had just had our dryer vent cleaned the day before by the other company. Normally, they would have included the dryer cleaning as part of their service fees but were agreeable to waiving this service. Upon inspection, though, they were able to see that the vent was not, in fact, cleaned entirely. They had to come back out the next day to clean the vent since they had not intended to clean it with their initial visit.Mike pulled out more bird nesting and even lint (which proved it was not cleaned correctly since we had kept the vent sealed shut and not been able to run the dryer still). I was shocked at the amount that was pulled out.The upgraded vent has since been installed, and a camera view ensured the job was complete. Something the first company was not able to do. I was trusting of the first company because they showed me a vent with airflow. I would have had no way of knowing the job was not done though had we not called this company to install the flap.Additionally, when I went back to the first company to let them know about the concern and ask for a PARTIAL refund (not even half of what we paid them), Better Service Co. was cooperative in sharing all the photos and evidence of what was pulled by their technician during the second cleaning. Better Service Co was true professionals and I would refer them again without hesitation.Pictured below is what they pulled out after the first company said the job was done.

    We recently had our dryer hoses cleaned by Better Service Company at the recommendation of our local appliance repair company. The repair technician advised dryer vent and hose cleaning annually and said Better Service Company was the most thorough company in the area for this job.The Better Service Co. tech arrived promptly, did a diligent cleaning job and suggested getting a shorter metal connector from our dryer to the wall to reduce the chance of lint blockages, which he installed the same day. We were happy with his work and will use Better Service Co. for future dryer vent cleanings.

    My first experience with these guys was great. Met with David and he was super informative and even educated me on fire hazards, best practices, and work that should not be done vs. should be considered to maintain my home. They were honest and reasonable in price which wins big with me since I deal with a ton of companies that always want to sell you something at steep prices with no value. Local company too!     This was the best thing Ive done for my house ever. My HVAC unit faltered and died during the heat wave this past September and couldnt be resurrected, so I contracted with Better Service to replace it using the City of Austins Home Performance with Energy Star program that offers rebates for high efficiency equipment.I opted for a Mitsubishi high efficiency heat pump system and a substantial upgrade in the attic insulation. It works beautifully, and the system is remarkably quiet in operation. The temperature is well-maintained without the air blowing forcefully through the vents, so the system operation is almost unnoticeable. In this time of changing weather, I am happy to say that the heating, the air conditioning, and the new insulation all do their jobs very well.As for the Better Service crew: Jordan and his entire crew were fully trustworthy and helpful, and respectful of my work-and-zoom-from-home requirements, and though the work involved moving throughout the house to replace vents and ductwork, they allowed me to keep my schedule with no interference. Plus, they kept to their own schedule and communicated clearly what was going to happen and when.Overall, I am happy with my new system and would recommend Better Service Co. with no reservations. Good job!

    I’ve worked with Better Service Co. for a very tedious dryer vent reconstruction project, and most recently for HVAC servicing at my home.     I called Better Service Company to inspect a fireplace for a rental property. The whole process was extremely easy. They handled all of the scheduling with the tenant, performed the inspection, and explained the condition of the fireplace to the tenant.     I appreciated James Garcias professional and kind demeanor. (Not sure if he is owner or manager.) He was able to squeeze me in on a hot day for end-of-the-week service request, when other companies werent available or I didnt like their practices when I called for a quote. I got to speak directly to him, explain my concerns, and he talked through the situation with me and possible ways to address it in a clear way. Our A/C had been progressively not cooling for well over a couple of weeks. I asked for a cleaning of our outside unit and he sent Joey to check things out. Long story short, the outside unit was cleaned, tested, and some leak stop was added to address a leak. Joey returned a couple of days later to see if he could identify the source of the leak, but the leak stop he had put in had done its job. No guarantee that this is a permanent fix for years to come, but that was made transparent by both James and Joey. I felt informed along the way in a stressful time. Also, I rent my home, and James did a good job of handling working with my landlord for payment of services rendered, which greatly alleviated my stress. Finally, James reduced the price for overall services when the cost wasnt necessitated for the service. I think it went from $750 to $500. I felt comfortable as a woman alone in the house with his employee, Joey, which is very important to me. Joey was professional, mindful, and respectful, and shared his best recommendations with me in a way I could understand, and also showed empathy, which is a great professional skill! I would highly recommend this company, because I think they are honest, professional, respectful, responsive, and are trying to do a good days work and serve their customers to the best of their ability. Thank you, Better Service Co. for keeping me cool on these atrociously hot days that came right after service!

    This is my 3rd year using this company and they are total quality people! I added a fireplace inspection and cleaning this year which was Fantastic and bring total peace of mind when I use my gas fireplace this winter ! They bring tarps to cover the floor to keep everything clean ; they go up on the roof to inspect all angles and also went up on roof to clean my dryer vent which was full of fluff !     These guys are awesome. James serviced our A/C and installed an in-duct air purifier system. He was on-time, every time -- and a total pleasure to have in our home.     For years I suffered from sleeping in a hot bedroom. My bedroom sits above my garage, where in the spring, summer, and fall months, temperatures in my bedroom would reach the high 70s, even with my central AC running.I go to bed very early, usually when the sun is still out and temperatures at peak. I wanted my bedroom to get down to 65 degrees during the summer months when I go to bed.In the spring of 2023, James and his team installed a flush-mount mini-split for my bedroom. Throughout the summer months of 2023, during a brutal season where we had record-breaking temperatures, this unit maintained a cold 65-degree temperature in my room, so much that I had to back off the temperatures a bit during the later parts of the night. I even put a heating pad at the foot of my bed to keep my feet warm!The flush-mount min-split operates quietly, enabling me to listen to my audio book on my phone while I fall asleep. I wasnt able to achieve this with other noisy portable AC units I used in the past.However, James did advise that humidity will rise when temperatures drop to the 60s. And this was certainly the case. During humid days, my bedroom felt like a cold damp cave, especially during the later parts of the night.As a result, James and his team installed a dedicated dehumidifier for the bedroom. The dehumidifier is effective. It creates a comfortable environment throughout the night when the temp in the room drops to the 60s. However, I only need to use the dehumidifier when the humidistat in my room reads above 50% before going to bed. The dehumidifier model is the smallest on the market but still generates a low humming sound that, depending on where its placed, may be more audible than the mini-split. However, both units operating together are still quiet enough for me to listen to my audio book without headphones.You can program the mini-split to adjust the temperature during the night. I like 65 degrees when I go to bed. But if I keep this temperature throughout the night I find myself waking up to grab blankets, even in August! So I program the mini-split to gradually back off the temperature every few hours, eventually waking up to around 70 degrees.One nice perk as a result from all of this is that I dont have to run my central AC throughout the night. However, do know that Im a single guy with no one else in my house.In the fall months, when the temperatures reach the 50s and 60s at night, I still run my mini-split and dehumidifier, and my bedroom room gets so comfortable.This whole setup will cost some dollars, but the quality of sleep I get each night is worth every penny.In terms of energy usage, my electricity costs increased 6-10% from June-August of 2022 and June-August of 2023. Its tough to say how much of this increase was due to introducing the system versus the extreme conditions of this record-breaking summer. But at least this gives you some idea of a potential maximum hit on your electricity bill.James and his team are all very professional, friendly, engaged, and trustworthy.Highly recommend the solution and James team to do the work!

    I called Better Service to come out and repair my Dryer Vent. David (one of the owners I believe) came out on a Wednesday (the very next day!) to give me a quote for the work. I accepted and we scheduled the work to be completed the next day. Unfortunately, it rained (weird for Texas) and since much of the work would be on my second story pitched roof, we agreed that this would be too dangerous, so we rescheduled for Friday. When he came out on Friday and got into the duct work, he discovered that what he initially believed was the problem turned out to be something different and much more simple to remedy. My dryer has never dried so quickly & thoroughly as it does now!!!! He was in and out quickly and for less than half of what the original bid was for. I am very happy with the knowledge, integrity & professionalism that was displayed by this company. I will 100% use them again and refer them to anyone who could use their services.

    I am really happy that I came across the Better Service Company. My dryer fan booster was not working properly. The fan was also not exposed, so I needed an access point created. I had a hard time finding a company who can do more than just clean the booster fan since I needed an access point. The plan was to actually replace the booster fan with a new one (my choice), but they would have needed to retro fit the new fan, and as a company -- they felt it would have been more beneficial to keep the existing fan and clean it. They saved me a lot of money compared to if I chose to have them retro fit to place a new one in. It made me confident that Better Service Company is a very ethical company. I highly recommend them, and I will continue to do business with them.

    David was totally professional and clearly knows what hes doing. He cleaned my dryer vents and helped me understand how my current (very old) dry vent cap was making it difficult (and dangerous! fire hazard!) for my dryer to do its job.     In the years that Ive owned my own homes, as well as a number of fairly old rental homes, Ive used some different dryer vent services; James & ATX Dryer was by far the most professional and knowledgeable that Ive found. Without going into a lot of detail I can say that he uses the appropriate tools for the job, and is thorough in checking out your entire dryer/exhaust setup. While some might see him offering to replace a cracked/kinked dryer vent hose (from the dryer to the wall) as upselling, I consider it a value-add service since he didnt try to push for replacing parts that didnt need it, in fact didnt push at all. He mentioned one part that I might be interested in replacing, we discussed it and when I declined he said OK and was on his way.Overall a great service experience, and since I make sure my dryer vent is cleaned about every 2 years Ill be seeing him again in the future.

    Without James, I wouldnt even have a vented dryer in my condo. When I moved in and connected the dryer, it repeatedly reported a severe venting problem. I called Better Dryer Vent and James came out to investigate. He determined that the existing dryer vent only went about two feet up the interior wall and terminated in some insulation. It had never been properly connected to the exterior dryer vent! Once I gave him the go ahead to perform some minor drywall intrusion in the laundry closet he rebuilt the vent, installed a booster fan at a midpoint in the long vent line to ensure the exhaust gets all the way to the outside and recommended Guzman Drywall (also excellent) to repair and paint the drywall and build a nice drywalled, painted soffit around the new ductwork.That was two years ago, and since then Ive had no problems other than once needing to reposition the booster fan as it started to make some vibrational noises. James comes annually to clean the vent and the fan and I couldnt be happier with the result.All along the way, James was extremely clear and forthcoming in his communication and explained to me everything he did before he did it and what I needed to do to properly maintain the vent and booster fan.Thanks James!

    James with ATX is great. He arrived on time, was super polite and considerate, and not only did he clean our vents, he also found some fire code violations that were going to take up with the builder!! He took the time to go out to the street to use a scope and get a visual on our exterior vent/cap, and he also ventured into our attic to try to fix the problem. Ultimately, we had a bigger issue on hand than just a screen on our vent, and James took photos and helped us figure out how to tackle it. I feel like no other company would take the time to really help us out. He didnt try to upsell or scare us into doing anything else. ATX does JUST dryer vents so its nice to rely on someone with the experience and the focus of doing it just right. We actually had another company come to clean out our vents initially and had a strange and even negative experience with them. Since they showed up at 7pm (it was dark out), we canceled and decided to go with ATX. Glad we did.
