My mom recently passed away and though she had a will, she did not have a trust or transfer on death deed (TODD) to pass on her house.So I one I was headed for the dreaded “P,” (probate). Like most would we were expecting a long drawn out and expensive probate process.So under the stress of loss coupled with the unknown complexities of what we were about to get into, we searched for a good attorney in the Dallas area and quickly got an appointment with Audra Apke with Shutt Law Firm.Like most people, we were expecting the worst as we’d read that to just get to a judge to be officially named the Executor per the will, it might take several months during which time I couldn’t put her house up for sale. We live in a different county so the prospect of protecting/maintaining an empty house far away was daunting.Audra asked us several questions about my mom’s financial and real assets and presented me with two options: normal probate with Letters Testamentary (the typical several month path) or an Affidavit of Heirship route, which could be executed relatively quickly.She clearly laid out the pros and cons of each path. After she did, it became obvious the AoH would be the best route for my mom’s real property. Her financial assets already had beneficiaries named so no probate of any kind was necessary.Within two months of my mom’s passing, we were able to put her house up for sale and sold it.Absolutely amazing!!Audra did an outstanding job clearly laying out the concerns for each party making it a very easy decision to go the path we did.Oh and BTW, realizing our own estate had no transfer mechanism for our house (like a trust or a TODD), even though we lived on a different county in Texas, Audra prepared and got recorded in our county, a TODD for our house so our kids will not have to go through a complex legal process as they try to grieve our passing.That Google search to find Shutt Law Firm and the appointment with Audra was the brightest shining light in a process that could have taken months!!Audra is extremely easy to talk to, listens very well and clearly has the clients best interest in mind. She reduced a complex legal process to something very understandable.She made us very comfortable with our decision, and the quick sale of the house was proof her recommendation was correct!If I could give Shutt Law Firm and Audra 6 stars, I would.Without hesitation, I recommend them!!

I made an initial consultation with Isaac since my husband and I needed Wills & medical directives. He listened well and took down everything we wanted. I also needed a name change for my Partnership & LLC due to marriage which he said would be no problem. The quote for the name change was based on different considerations which I understood and was thrilled that he literally only charged me for the filing fee with the State of Texas since it was such a simple form to fill out for both the Partnership and LLC.Trevor ended up taking over for when we went in to sign the Wills, etc and he did an awesome job going over everything about the medical directives and the Wills so that we understood every aspect of it all. Mr. Shutt is a good hearted, wonderful person and I would recommend him to anyone. I needed him to help me with a pretty depressing issue where I thought my brother and I were left out of my mothers will. This was more about hurt feelings than anything else since she really does not have much money at all but I just had to know where I stood. We had not been close for several years and my step brothers were. There was even a trust set up in my stepfathers name with one of them as executor. Mr. Shutt scheduled my appointment and once he looked over the paperwork he announced that she left everything to me. I was so relieved and ready to pay when he told me I didnt need to pay him at all. It just seemed like he was in the business to truly help people and not in it for the money or status. Shutt Law Firm has been a major blessing to my family. Dealing with life’s most difficult issue, death, Mr. Shutt and his team were there every step of the way. One thing I really appreciated was his willingness to explain the process, answer my questions and never made me feel rushed or like I was asking a dumb question. I could tell that he really enjoys his job and has a love for the law therefore he made the process significantly less difficult than it would have normally been.Wills: He met with us in person and on the phone several times until our wills were exactly how we wanted them. He advised us the whole way through. His fees were very reasonable and it was worth every penny to know that our children and estate would be taken care of.Probate: He explained everything to me in my new role as executor. He told me that he could be as involved or uninvolved as I needed him to be. Estates can be lengthy processes and he never lost momentum. He was full of energy and drive and I always felt like he had my back.Truly grateful for Mr. Isaac Shutt and his team and I would highly recommend him! Ana at the Shutt Law Firm helped my family with estate planning for my grandfather. He is nearly deaf and has been home bound for some time, so we knew that communication would be a challenge, especially considering the pandemic. However, Ana went above and beyond what we expected of her. She was able to make a home visit with him. She wore a mask and maintained proper social distance per CDC guidelines. And she was able to type everything out on a screen for my grandfather to read so that he could fully understand the documents she was drafting for him to sign. My parents asked me to find an attorney to update their estate planning documents, so we scheduled a 30-min consultation with Ana. After speaking with my mom, it turned out that many of her original documents were outdated and did not meet their current needs. We landed on re-drafting their pour-over wills and their powers of attorney and adding amendments to their existing revocable trust to include a Special Needs trust for a disabled family member, which protects her current benefits. In addition, there were other documents that are standard (Physicians Directive and Disposition of Remains) that I was able to bring in and have her and her colleagues witness - saving us even more money. My father is 90 years old and hard of hearing so she had to repeat herself sometimes but she was so patient with him and my mom - using language they could understand and never rushing them. Due to this, our appointment lasted a lot longer than she anticipated but she stayed late on a Friday in order to make sure they were completely taken care of. My parents loved her and we intend to send all our family members to her from now so that she can handle all their estate planning needs. She was more than fair in her pricing and her services and time were worth every penny and more. Professional, courteous, friendly, respectful - just everything you want in an attorney.
