If you decide to go with Highland Residential Mortgage, I would highly recommend Derek Shaw as your lender. Being first time home buyers, Derek made himself available at all hours of the day and night to help my wife and I close within 2 and a half weeks of finding our first home. What is even more impressive is these 2 weeks were the week of Christmas and New Years where it can be a nightmare to even find anyone available for all of things necessary to close on a house from inspections, to appraisals, to coordinating with a mobile notary and title company that is not local to get my documents signed to get the keys handed over to us.Being first time home buyers, this process could have been very stressful for me and my wife, but Derek was there from the beginning to help us set a great foundation to understand the home buying process, and I was raving to my wife about the Highlands phone app and website that allowed me to create a profile to view our home buying timeline and to be able to communicate/sign important documents. This app was able to give me and my wife some peace of mind to see where we were along this process and to not have to anticipate the next steps. Im a very pragmatic thinker so seeing the timeline helped to reassure me that I wasnt missing any steps or details along our journey to purchasing a home.Derek was beyond helpful in this process but he was able to really push through to get us through this process. If there were any hurdles we may have encountered along the way, we were unaware until we closed on our property.Customer service is very important to me being that I deal with customers on a daily basis, so to be in the passenger seat and watch Derek in action showed me the amount of experience and skill he has to make people comfortable and well attended to. My wife and I are usually not the type to be able to openly discuss our finances and private business, but Dereks demeanor and attitude allowed me and my wife to easily and openly discuss our options considering our personal financial situation. He was able to give us his personal advice on what decisions he would make and also advised us on what to look out for in other scenarios and situations to help us plan for our future finances.It was an absolute pleasure to work with Derek through this lending process. We were always on the same page and his responsiveness was integral to getting our property closed in record time during the holidays. I would 100% choose to work with Derek for any of our future decisions even outside of lending if he were to offer his professional help.

There will be hiccups that will arise in the process. It could be very stressful, frustrating and ups and downs of emotions can be felt. But with alot of prayers, GOD sent Pia my way through FB. She answered all our first time home buyer questions, provided us with amount estimations, walked us through the process, communicated and explained every step of the process and where we are at. And provided options how we can overcome the hiccups that we experience. We were expecting that the process will take over 3 months or longer but with alot of prayers and help from Pia, we were able to close it in exactly 2 months.
